Applying for a PhD

As a University of Suffolk postgraduate student, you’ll be an integral and respected part of our research community. Our students from across the UK and around the world study are developing their own research or ground-breaking projects under the supportive guidance of an academic supervisor. We are able to offer both Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) research degrees. Our MPhil and PhDs are validated and awarded by the University of Brighton, bringing a rich academic history to our research areas. Our research students will enrol with the University of Suffolk and all PhD supervision and training will take place at our stunning Waterfront campus in Ipswich.

Students will study for around 3–4 years full-time and 6–7 years part-time. We operate a rolling intake of students so you can make an application any time during the year. Typically UK students would start their PhD one month after a formal offer is made. International students would start around three months after an offer is made.
